2014 Annual Event Features Main Street Open House, Live Music, a “Stocking Walk”, Chriskindle Market and Prizes
November 25, 2014 – Como, Miss. – Christmas in Como 2014 is the ticket this year—literally. The Main Street Open House doubles this year as an opportunity for guests to make stops at participating businesses on Main Street while carrying their “Holiday Express Ticket”.
“Visitors will stroll Main Street, making stops at specific businesses. At each stop, the hosting business will mark the card. Once the card is full, visitors will be eligible to drop the card at the Gallery at 223 Main to potentially win one of eight gifts, ranging from cash prizes to a $25 Home Depot gift card to a handmade birdhouse or piece of pottery,” said Andrea Brown Ross, one of the event organizers.
At the Gallery at 223, visitors can shop at a Chriskindle market filled with unique holiday items, handmade jewelry, baked goods and more while enjoying live music. Additionally, a giving tree to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Northwest Mississippi will be set up. “The idea here is for people to bring new or gently-used items such as books, board games and art supplies for school-aged children and drop in the train “box” cars surrounding the tree; cash donations will also be accepted,” added Ross.
Santa will be seeing good boys and girls all afternoon at the Como Fire Department where guests can also enjoy holiday treats.
“We will also be hosting a “stocking walk”, a slightly different version of a cake walk at the gallery from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can buy $1 tickets to potentially win either a baked good or small gift,” said Karen Ott Mayer, volunteer coordinator for the Como Main Street Alliance.
In addition to local music, the Baddour Center’s Hearts in Motion will kick off the afternoon with singing at 12 p.m. Tori Tollison will be the feature musician of the day, performing later in the afternoon prior to the drawings. “We are excited to welcome Miss Emily Sigler, Panola County’s Miss Hospitality who will be pulling the winning names that afternoon at approximately 4:45 p.m.
The “Holiday Express Ticket” can be picked up at local Main Street businesses or on the day of the event at The Gallery at 223.
