The Panola Advantage

One critical key to success is taking advantage of opportunity, and few opportunities offer more promise for success than the “Panola Advantage.” New businesses and industrial developments are discovering that the “Panola Advantage” includes numerous benefits that are ideally suited for establishing and expanding commerce. If you are trying to choose the right place to do business, Panola County is the answer – and the Panola Partnership can open all the right doors.

Panola Advantage #1 – A Prime Location

Panola County is strategically located at a major cross roads of transportation and commerce. In the northwestern part of Mississippi, Panola County is just 45 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee. Interstate 55 is a direct link to the Memphis International Airport, which, as the international headquarters of FedEx, houses the busiest cargo airport in the world. Known as America’s distribution center, Memphis is also home to the second-largest railway and trucking centers in the U.S. Additionally, Panola County is less than one hour’s drive from Tunica, Mississippi, the country’s third largest casino and gaming center; barely thirty minutes from the historic, literary city of Oxford; only two hours from the state capital of Jackson; and an easy drive to the famed Mississippi Gulf Coast.  Location maps.

Panola Advantage #2 – Transportation

Panola County can boast of its superior access to major freight railways and interstates. Area industries benefit from direct connections to their loading docks, ensuring speedy arrivals of needed parts and supplies as well as the efficient delivery of newly manufactured goods.

Panola Advantage #3 – The Cost of Doing Business

As compared to other parts of the United States, the cost of doing business in Panola County is an appealing investment. With competitive incentives combined with comparatively low taxes and labor costs plus more affordably priced land, facilities, housing, medical care and other amenities, it’s no wonder that Panola County is quickly becoming recognized as the site of choice for many new and expanding corporations. A strong industrial base that includes such nationally prominent companies as Batesville Casket, Springs Global US, Crown Beverage Packaging USA, Insituform Technologies, Inc., General Electric-Aviation, and many others, has helped Panola County develop a solid reputation for serving the needs of respected and progressive companies…companies that fully appreciate the many advantages of their Panola County location.

Panola Advantage #4 – Quality of Life

Panola County features scenic lakes and parks that are teeming with popular water sports and favorite fishing spots, camping grounds, and hiking trails. Residential living is ideal with lots of land for spacious and affordable housing and recreation. There are city and state parks, a private country club and a top-rated public golf course, too.

Churches and neighborhood communities offer a range of activities for family members of all ages. There are several colleges and universities in or near Panola County (The University of Mississippi is barely 30 minutes away.) Additionally, local schools provide a strong academic experience plus a variety of additional programs such as Arts in the Schools with bands (including a concert and symphonic band), choirs, drama and even a puppet theatre program.

You’ll also find exceptional health care needs in Panola County. The Tri-Lakes Medical Center is located in Batesville. Doctors and smaller clinics are found throughout the county. And Memphis, which is home to one of the largest medical and research centers in the U.S. is only one hour away.

The pastoral, rolling hills of northern Panola County and the rich, Delta farmlands of the county’s western border are dotted with six primary municipalities, which are represented by the Panola Partnership.

The largest community is Batesville, which is known for its thriving business economy, major retail developments, respected and fully-accredited public and private schools, and active community life. Batesville’s Main Street Historic District is the site of retail shopping, a 125-year old hardware store, and the famed Eureka Theatre.

Sardis is a town of Southern charm and numerous civic clubs that encourage community involvement. The Panola Playhouse is a well-known and active theatre group housed in a charming setting: a newly-renovated former movie house. Sardis is also home of many architectural landmarks, including the historic Heflin House, along with dozens of homes and churches designed by the noted architect Andrew Johnson.

Como is a historic community that has seen dramatic changes in recent years as it has evolved from a farming center known for its numerous and famous blues artists into a popular entertainment destination and artist community. Como’s Main Street is lined with popular restaurants (some with live music) that attract visitors from throughout the Mid-South. The Como Opera Guild pulls talent from Memphis and North Mississippi to present full-length operas, recitals and an annual free-to-the-public outdoor performance of Broadway show tunes and arias every fall.  Como is one of the few stops along the Mississippi Blues Trail that features two Blues Trail Markers.

In the heart of the Mississippi Delta, Crenshaw is surrounded by some of the most fertile land in America. A well-established agricultural community, Crenshaw is also a growing industrial area.

The town of Pope is a fisherman’s paradise, because of its close proximity to Enid Lake. (Enid Lake is known for its record-size crappie and bass, as well as The North Mississippi Fish Hatchery, located west of Enid Lake on 58 acres of land leased from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.) Pope is also proud of the Pope Woman’s Club, a volunteer organization dedicated to education, literature, fine arts, civic affairs and community betterment. The club sponsors a number of annual events, supports several charities and sponsors college scholarships.

Courtland balances the best of both worlds. It actively preserves the benefits of rural living with a neighborly, easy-paced lifestyle combined with the services and conveniences of a 21st century community.
