Batesville’s mayor and aldermen are inviting owners of buildings and businesses in the downtown area and representatives of Batesville Main Street to a meeting Tuesday, Jan. 15, to discuss the planned renovations for the business district.
City officials set the meeting time at 6:30 p.m. on the recommendation of Mendrop Engineering representative Lauralee Gann, who serves as her firm’s liaison with Batesville Main Street, the city and business and building owners.
She said that time would better accommodate the working schedules of most participants.
The city is planning a $400,000 downtown renovation project to improve the appearance, traffic flow and parking in the downtown Batesville Square, its immediate approaches and the Van Voris Street business corridor. Funding for the project comes primarily from a $350,000 Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Transportation Enhancement Grant with the balance coming from city funds and in-kind services.
In other city business during last week’s “First Tuesday” meeting, aldermen unanimously approved a request by Chad Tidwell to rezone a portion of property on Highway 51 South as “C-3.” The designation will allow sales of autos at the site as well as the operation of a wrecker service that had previously been allowed.
