Highways

Panola County has a modern road system with improvements taking place each year as we continue to grow.

Batesville, the largest of Panola County’s municipalities, is located at the intersection of Interstate 55, which runs north and south, and Mississippi Highway 6, which runs east and west.  Batesville is approximately 45 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee.

Other municipalities in Panola County served by Interstate 55 are Sardis, located 8 miles north of Batesville; Como, located 14 miles north of Batesville; and the Pope/Courtland area, located 6 miles south of Batesville.

State Highways 3, 35, 51, 310, 315, 322 allow Panola County to service the surrounding counties of Lafayette, Tallahatchie, Tate, Quitman and Yalobusha.

Ports

Panola County is not located along a major waterway and therefore does not have a port.

However, The Port of Memphis is located 60 miles north of Batesville via Interstate 55.  The Port of Memphis is the Mississippi River’s second largest inland port.  The Port of Memphis is one of the fastest growing designated ports of entry in the U.S.

Airport

Panola County Airport (KPMU) is available for small charter planes.

Interstate 55 is a direct link to the Memphis International Airport (MEM), which, as the international headquarters of FedEx, houses the busiest cargo airport in the world.
