Panola County, in the northwestern part of Mississippi, was established February 9, 1836, and is one of the twelve large northern counties created in that year out of the Chickasaw cession of 1832.
Panola County has two public school systems that serve county residents---North Panola and South Panola. North Delta School, located in Batesville, is a private academy. For the pursuit of higher education, Panola County is also in close proximity to several community colleges and four-year institutions.

Sardis April Fest & Open Car Show
Sardis Chamber of Commerce and the Mississippi Delta Street Rodders host an annual April Fest and Open Car Show on Main Street each April. The 2011 event will be held on Saturday, April 2. Food vendors and crafters are organized by the Sardis Chamber of Commerce (662.487.3451 or 662.609.2159). The Car Show is organized by local Mississippi Delta Street Rodders Ronnie and Angie Hinton (662.934.6189 or 662.934.4143). Fun for all ages!
City of Batesville SpringFest
SpringFest is an annual two day festival on the Downtown Square in Batesville featuring great music, good food and lots of fun. A wide variety of events and entertainment are offered to our festival goers. Rock climbing wall, balloon artists, magicians, live radio remotes with prize giveaways and amusement rides and games are all part of the fun. Throughout the two-day festival national, regional and local entertainment is featured with this year's headliner being national recording artist, Little Texas. Admission to the festival area is free. There is also a 5K held the Saturday morning each year of SpringFest. The 2011 SpringFest will be held May 13-14. St. Jude Bass Classic
The St. Jude Bass Classic is an annual pick your partner fishing tournament held at the Sardis Lake annually on Memorial Day Weekend. The tournament is limited to 350 boats and benefits St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Panola Partnership Legislative Day 2010
This event will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2010. The morning consists of a brief coffee time before we begin a series of legislative forums at the Holiday Inn of Batesville.The topics of these discussions are transportation, healthcare and an update of legislative affairs.The audience is invited to voice their concerns by asking questions and have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with the panel during the breaks. For the afternoon we have two events planned: a golf scramble at Panola Country Club or a Skeet Shoot at a location to be determined. Whether you choose to participate in any of the above activities or not, we will host a Legislative Reception from 7:00-10:00 that evening at the Holiday Inn in Batesville. Sardis Chamber of Commerce Antique Engine & Tractor Show
The Sardis Chamber of Commerce annually host an Antique Engine & Tractor Show each October.Friday evening there is a fish fry beginning at 5:30 PM.The Chamber will sponsor its first “Sardis Has Talent” contest which is open to all area residents.Saturday's events include a Tractor Parade and a tractor pull sponsored by The Hide Group and Sardis Florist & Gifts. There is always an extensive display of antique engines and tractors. City of Batesville Holiday Open House
The Holiday Open House is held the Sunday before Thanksgiving each year from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. City-wide merchants open their doors for customers to begin their holiday shopping. Additional activities include live entertainment, carriage rides, and various childrens’ activities. Local/regional musicians perform at the Downtown Memorial Park (Amphitheater). There is no charge for the public. Carriage ride tickets are sold to benefit Batesville Main Street Projects. Paid activities for children include volunteers helping with Letters to Santa and ornament decorating for the town Christmas tree.Aside from downtown merchants, local/regional artists set up in a banquet hall downtown to sell/display their wares. Panola County has a modern road system with improvements taking place each year as we continue to grow.
Batesville, the largest of Panola County’s municipalities, is located at the intersection of Interstate 55, which runs north and south, and Mississippi Highway 6, which runs east and west.Batesville is approximately 45 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee.
Other municipalities in Panola County served by Interstate 55 are Sardis, located 8 miles north of Batesville; Como, located 14 miles north of Batesville; and the Pope/Courtland area, located 6 miles south of Batesville.
State Highways 3, 35, 51, 310, 315, 322 allow Panola County to service the surrounding counties of Lafayette, Tallahatchie, Tate, Quitman and Yalobusha.
